FIFPro Announce Nominees For 2017 FIFA World XI

 

 

“FIFPro have announced the 55 nominees for the 2017 FIFA World XI.

About 25 000 professional footballers from all over the world took part in the nomination process, and the players with the most votes were listed among the 55 nominees.

The World XI, which will be announced during the FIFA awards in London on 23 October, will be made up of one goal keeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League-winning side has a record-breaking 13 players among the nominees. However, not one African star made it to the final 55.”

There has been a change in the format used by FIFPro and FIFA to shortlist the players.Previously the voting was based on performances over a calendar year, it is now aligned with the majority of competitions which run from months August to June.

This is the 13th edition of the World X1 after the award was established by FIFPro, the World Players’ Union, in 2005, and later merged with FIFA in 2009.
